9:00 – 10:15 a.m.                   UTIA membership meeting in Auditorium – State Office Building,  Capitol Hill Campus.   Meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Utah tourism, regardless of UTIA membership status

10:15 – 11:15 a.m.                Training session, Auditorium – State Office Building, Capitol Hill Campus  “Lobbying for Tourism 101” — brush up your lobbying skills and understanding of how the process works. Hear from the pro’s involved in tourism’s lobbying efforts.

10: 30 a.m.                               Exhibit set-up in Capitol Rotunda for DMO’s, non-profit tourism organizations (limited space); and other tourism representatives request brief meetings with legislators via messages onto House/Senate floor

12:00 – 2:00 p.m.                   Tourism Industry Lunch in Capitol Rotunda for tourism representatives and Utah Senators and Representatives, sponsored by UTIA “Picnic in the Rotunda”

2:00 – 5:00 p.m.                     Tourism representatives request brief meetings with legislators via messages onto House/Senate floor if they have not been able to meet before or during lunch

$35 per person includes registration and lunch

New “Tourism Works Awards” to be rolled out at Utah Tourism Conference

Tourism Works.  

No one understands that better than you. So we are finding more ways to celebrate it.  The Utah Office of Tourism and the Utah Tourism Industry Association are pleased to announce a new recognition program for some of the great people all over the state who are building our $7.98 billion industry.  This year’s tourism conference, Sept. 27 – 29 at the Zermatt Resort in Midway will launch three new recognition programs:  Spirit of Service, Outstanding Community Tourism initiative and Outstanding Utah Advertising Award.

We need your help to launch the Tourism Works recognition. Please nominate the people you see demonstrating day after day that Tourism Works.  Deadline for submission of entries will be on Friday, Sept. 16 at noon.  Winners will be selected by the Tourism Conference Planning Committee and announced on the final day of the conference.

  • Customer service, flexibility, energy, creativity, and imagination

Outstanding Community Tourism Initiative

  • Program well received by the community

Outstanding Utah Advertising Award

  • Clear, effective, focused, and innovated promotion or campaign
  • Measurable contributions to Utah Tourism Industry in the local, state, and/or regional economy
  • Utilization of creative elements in the form of traditional media, social media, public relations, special promotions, events, and direct marketing.

Submission must be completed and received by email on
Friday, September 16th at 12:00 p.m.

JUDGING PANEL
The Utah Tourism Conference Committee will review the entries. Entry review will be based on the information provided on the attached entry form only. An entry may be disqualified if it is determined that there is not adequate information provided on the entry form. ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL.

ENTRY GUIDELINES
A completed entry form must be received by the deadline, emailed to utahtourismawards@gmail.com

Only one (1) entry will be considered for any one organization or individual per category.
Entries not prepared according to the guidelines may be disqualified.

Speakers & Sessions lined up for Utah Tourism Conference

UTC16_LogoWe are the industry that makes memories, fulfills dreams and creates once in a lifetime adventure. How do we stay on our game? Come learn new trends, ideas and motivational assists from our 2016 Tourism Conference Speakers & sessions. Here is a brief sampling from our agenda:

  • Derrek Kyongo, a Ugandan refugee who started the Global Soap Project, CEO of the center for Civil and Human Rights, Atlanta and one among CNN’s Top Ten Heroes of 2011. He meets every challenge he faces with positivity, determination, discipline and vision. He knows how to turn that vision into a successful venture of any kind.
  • Chad Hymas is a best selling author, president of his own Communication Company and a world-class wheelchair athlete. He has insights in customer service, traveling as a quadriplegic, overcoming discouragement and problem solving in our employment and in our personal lives.
  • Natalie Gochnour is an associate dean in the David Eccles School of Business at the U of U, and director of the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. She served in the administrations of three Utah Governors and in the George W. Bush Administration. She will inform, direct and explain the many economic issues in Utah’s tourism industry.

Our breakout sessions will offer something for everyone. Social media strategy; Bicycling: aiding rural tourism; influential blogging for the year 2016; the Chinese market; tourism infrastructure funding, a session with Roger Brooks and our exciting new addition this year – scheduled appointments for DMO’s with UOT Contractors. Put on your running shoes.

You won’t want to miss a minute!  Early bird registration of $175 per person ends July 1, and fees increase to $199 per person.

Tourism industry comes to Utah’s Capitol Hill on Monday Feb. 1, 2016

Tourism representatives from all over the state of Utah joined with legislators and elected officials to highlight and celebrate tourism at the Capitol Rotunda on Feb. 1.  Governor Gary Herbert stopped by; many members of legislative leadership as well as Representatives and Senators joined the group for lunch.  The industry and elected officials all agree “Tourism Works” for Utah!

2016 Tourism Day on the Hill is Mon. Feb. 1 in SLC!

Registration is open for the 10th Annual UTIA Tourism Day on the Hill!

UTIA is pleased to announce the 10th Annual Tourism Day on the Hill (TDH), Monday Feb. 1, 2016. This event draws Utah tourism industry representatives from the private & public sector, local elected officials and anyone involved in Utah’s tourism industry to gather in Salt Lake City on Capitol Hill to demonstrate that Utah’s tourism industry is united!  All TDH events including the UTIA membership meeting will be held on the Utah Capitol Complex in Salt Lake City.

Registration is $30 per person and includes lunch with legislators.  UTIA member DMO’s will receive exhibit information.  REGISTER HERE!
